If you find that your shuttle is playing too fast or too slow you can tip its feathers to alter its speed, rather than discard the shuttle. The more feathers you tip, the more the speed will be altered.
A shuttle has 16 feathers so you should tip every 4th feather, every other or all 16 feathers. This ensures an even distribution of tipped feathers so the shuttle flies true.
To tip a fast shuttle, simply use your thumb and forefinger to grasp the end of the feather and tweak the tip of the feather outwards. If you tip further down the feathers, this will slow the shuttle down more. You can speed a shuttle up by tipping the feathers inwards.
