The stop drop is a deceptive overhead shot that you will see in both Singles and Doubles.
The aim is to convince your opponent you are about to play a powerful shot when in fact you play a soft overhead shot to drop just over the net.
By convincing them a powerful shot is imminent their body weight will move back onto their heels, from where it will be harder for them to get forwards.
By making them play the shuttle from well below net height you will be hoping for a weaker reply for you to attack. If you can master the deception then the shuttle may not come back at all!
