For a round-the-head drop shot, you should try to get your body behind the shuttle, although there will be times where you will have to lean behind and across your non-racket side to play this shot.
The racket face should impact the shuttle in a slightly downwards plane and be directed so that the shuttle will move diagonally to your opponent’s forecourt.
To create the slice, you will need the racket head to come across the shuttle with an in to out movement (from right to left if you are right handed).
Use your wrist and fingers to create the slicing action avoiding big movements of the arm. Ideally the shuttle should land in the corner of the forecourt near to the short service line.
The more slice you can create, the quicker the shuttle will die in the forecourt area. Specific footwork to these round-the-head shots are explained in detail in other clips on this website.
