When the man receives a low serve in mixed doubles, where possible he should try and play a return that will allow him to be able to get back to cover rear court shots and let the woman advance to the forecourt.

Deep replies and pushes to the mid court are common replies for this. If a man plays a very good quality return to the forecourt area he should consider staying to capitalise on a weak 3rd shot back to the forecourt area.

If the woman is reasonably strong in the rear court area then the man can afford to stay in after playing a good return of serve.
