One of the fundamental parts of badminton is the use of the correct grip. Your grip will vary depending on your position on the court in relation to the shuttle and the shot to be played.

The basic forehand grip is used for over arm or under arm shots when the shuttle is level with the body on the racket arm side. A simple way of gripping the racket for this forehand grip is to shake hands with the racket when the racket face is lined vertically.

A ‘V’ or tick shape is created by the thumb and first finger as you look down the shaft. The point of the ‘V’ should be positioned along the line of the bevelled part of the racket handle. The precise bevelled part of the handle is shown here for both right and left-handers.

The racket is held in the middle of the handle with a relaxed grip. The fingers are spread along the handle for greater racket control.
