In doubles, when returning the serve, your aim should be to try and force a lift from the opposition so that you can get on the attack.

Generally, this means getting the shuttle travelling in a downward direction. The key principles to achieve this are to take the shuttle as early as possible and try to meet it above net height.

Try to avoid lifting the shuttle on return of serve, as this will give your opponents the opportunity to get on the attack early on in the rally. Sometimes you have no choice!
