The T position is commonly considered as the base for the forecourt player in doubles.

Following a short serve, the front player should then get ready as quickly as possible to try and cover any forecourt replies.

During the rally, the forecourt player’s aim should be to cover shuttles in this forecourt area and to maintain the attack through early interceptions.

You need to be able to stand close enough to the net to be able to attack loose shots, but far enough back to intercept faster shuttles passing through the forecourt area.

At the very high level where players have good anticipation and quick reactions and footwork, you will see the forecourt player standing behind the T position as they can cover a larger forecourt area.
