For the backhand flick serve, the shuttle needs to be struck in front of the body and preferably look the same build up as your normal backhand low serve.
You should stand in a comfortable position with a backhand grip and the thumb placed along the back of the racket and the shuttle in front of the racket.
To create the flick the racket head needs to come through very quickly over a short distance and the thumb should squeeze on impact with the shuttle.
When you first try this serve you may need to bring your racket head back further than you would on a low serve to create the racket head speed and force to flick the shuttle a good distance. With practice you should be able to compact the serve so that is looks exactly the same as your low serve in preparation and therefore keep your opponents guessing.
A deceptive flick serve can catch the opponents off guard and create a weak reply so that you can get on the attack in the rally
