Defence is an area that players really worry about and this can cause stress and anxiety that leads to a lot of errors.  Defending is a major part of the game and a positive mental approach is necessary so that the technical elements used for defending well can be implemented.

The key points are:

  • Get into a good defensive stance with the feet early
  • Relax the upper body and have the racket ready in front of the body
  • Turn the hand back not break from the elbow
  • Move the racket to the shuttle to hit it in front of the body

The ultimate goal is to turn defence into attack.
