Moving the racket to meet the shuttle will not only allow you to intercept it early but will give you options to play a variety of replies.
Remember the earlier you can intercept the shuttle, the less time your opponent has to react.
Bending the arm at the elbow will bring the racket too far back behind the body and you will be late on the defensive shot.
Pushing the elbow away from the body and turning the hand back with knuckles up enables you to keep the racket head in front of the body.
There should be a gap between the first and second finger. This will help to keep the hand relaxed.
