It was a re-match of the World Championships semi-final today!

Thursday 25th January

It was re-match day today!  Donna and Clarky had to play Fischer and Anderssen again and Nathan and I had to play Flandy and Vita again.  Turns out, the same results from the Malaysian Open happened again at the Korean Open.  Great for us, not so good for the others.  I felt that in our game, it was the worse that Nathan and I had played in the 2 weeks but we scraped it and won 21-19, 21-15.  Through to the quarter-finals.

When we arrived at the hall to play our match, we were greeted by a very excited Hannah!  She just screamed at us that Dave Lindley and Suzanne Rayappan had won their match.  They beat Nova and Natsir 23-21 in the third.

Nova and Natsir are currently number 1 in the world and they are number 1 seeds in this tournament so it was a brilliant win for them!  I have never seen those 2 beam so much!  An amazing result for them.  Apparently, Dave had said to Chris Langridge that if he won that match, he would do some break-dancing on court to celebrate.  Hmmm…. I think Dave tried to do the “turtle” but ended up just rolling on the floor like a bug in trouble!

Think he needs to work on those moves a bit!  I think Hannah is going to put it on YouTube!

Friday 26th January

It was a re-match of the World Championships semi-final today!  Las time we played the Thailand pair, it was 25-23 in the third win to us! This time it was not so dramatic! We won 21-18, 21-12.

Suzanne and Dave couldn’t pull another great win from under their belts and they lost comfortably to Gao Ling and Zheng Bo.

On the way to dinner, Donna, Suzanne and I were talking about the times when we were juniors and the first time we had to talk to the senior players of our time and how nervous we were!  It seems to us now that the youngsters are so confident and not scared of us at all! Is it a good thing?!  I was actually looking forward to the time that a junior was going to be scared of me just the way I was scared of Jo Goode, Nicky Beck and Jo Davies!!

Suzanne came up with the idea of spreading some rumours around about myself and Donna to really make us unapproachable – things like “don’t talk to Gail before 11am or she’ll bite your arm” and “don’t wear the colour red around Donna – it makes her very angry”!  Soon our imaginations were running wild and more and more outrageous statements were coming out!  I hope she doesn’t spread them about!

Saturday 27th January

Aaaargghhhh!  Very frustrating – the worst game of mixed doubles possible!!  Lost to Laybourn and Juhl 19-21, 21-12, 16-21.  Basically it was who could muck it up first and that just happened to be us! There were no rallies and I came off court actually wondering if we had played a game or not!  I had no sweat on as it was a maximum of 3 shots a rally. Quality.  Hmmmm….. !

Sunday 28th January

Going home!  I tried to stay up most of the night so I would sleep on the flight.  I am looking forward to going to my house, but it will be a couple more days yet.
