World Champions!!

Sunday 24th September

World Champions. Wow,  What an amazing feeling!  I can't really believe it and am completely lost for words but I feel really happy and also slightly relieved.  It was not the easiest of finals as we had to play Clarky and Donna but we got through it professionally I think.  I also think that we would be feeling a lot different and shouting from the rooftops if we had played someone else in the final instead of our friends and roommates.

But that's the way it goes sometimes and a gold and silver medal in the mixed doubles is a massive achievement for English badminton.

Clarky and Rob were overpowered by an amazing Chinese pair in the mens doubles final.  Not much to say on it except that they can really gain confidence from this result and I hope they do really well this year to add to it.

Celebration time!! I have been looking forward to this moment for a while!

A large glass of white wine has my name on it!  Along with some champagne, cocktails and rose wine!!  Hee hee!  Players, coaches, support staff and parents went to a beautiful restaurant which was a converted theatre and had a lovely meal washed down with so much drink! Nathan and Rob were downing daiquiris, Pete Jeffery was getting through the bottles of beer and the parents - well they were all telling very embarrassing stories of us all and doing their best to make us cringe!!  A top night which made the week even more memorable.

Monday 25th September

Ow, heads are hurting! And Donna, Nathan and I had to fly to Copenhagen as we had a club match on Tuesday night.  We had flights booked to Copenhagen from England but as we got to the final, it made sense to go straight there.

Good plan, but it was a morning flight and the state that Nathan was in last night, I was not looking forward to dragging him round the airport!  He turned up, having had no sleep, hoodie on and huge sunglasses and shouting around as he was still drunk!  Brilliant. Donna and I did our best and managed to get him on the flight but it was full of the Danish supporters that had been out in Madrid!

They did find it funny that the guy they had just seen win the World Champs was a mess and was being looked after by Donna and myself!  But they were all really nice and saying congratulations!

Tuesday 26th Septembe r

We won our team match! Yippee!  Beat our old club Hvidovre 6-0.  Not good news for Tracey Hallam though - she had to pull out in the 1st set of her match as she had pulled her ankle ligaments.  Scans have since shown she will need an operation and will be out til January.

Am getting so tired now... want to be home!!
