About badminton.tv

Where it all began

After gallons of coffee, many late nights and a few false starts badminton.tv was born in the early hours of the 10th September 2006. The story didn't start there though, in fact, it started back in September 2000 almost 6 years earlier.

Picture the scene ... it's late September 2000 and a meeting has been hurriedly put together by the ex-Lord Mayor of London, Sir Anthony Joliffe and the tennis guru David Lloyd bringing together a selection of individuals who had similar plans for online sports portals.

Two of the attendees, Jonathan Phillips and Arif Harbott were meeting for the first time. Arif an ex-tennis professional working for Deloitte Touché and Jonathan; badminton journeyman and owner of Inchima – a software house specialising in online communities. After retiring to a local coffee shop they discussed plans to build a media portal for grass roots badminton players, soon after www.badders.com was born and the journey had started.

Then in 2006 after visiting the All England Open in Birmingham they approached BADMINTON England with the idea of building a fully interactive coaching and media portal. With the help of Chris Johnson and Gerry Cronin of BADMINTON England the site now boasts expert content and video serving thousands of members from all over the world.

"I really like what we're doing. It's definitely a step forward for a national sporting body to get involved in a project like this," said Phillips, co-founder of badminton.tv. “Of all the sports bodies we work with BADMINTON England is certainly the most forward thinking and see a long-term future for the media portal."

"The recent introduction of blogs and forums have been well received and over the coming months we hope to add "live chat" where we get top players and special guests to host online events where they can be asked questions in real-time".
